The IFI 100-107 standard covers dimensional and mechanical requirements of three grades (A,B,C) of prevailing-torque steel hex nuts and two grades (F,G) of prevailing-torque steel flange hex nuts. There are also three basic designs : a) all-metal, one piece constructionwhich generates the prevailing-torque from distortion of the nut thread; b) metal nuts with the addition of a nonmetallic insert plug or patch in the thread; c) two piece construction nuts with a full ring of nonmetallic material usually inserted and retained at the top surface.
